History

 

The Trailer

Simpsonwood United Methodist Church had its official beginning in a simple trailer on Sunday, March 14, 1982. This same trailer is even now being used to house the Children's "45" Group and the Boy Scout Troop at Simpsonwood UMC.

 

 

 

 

The Sanctuary Building

 

A 15,000 square foot building was consecrated on Sunday, September 14, 1986 'for the glory of God'. It houses the Sanctuary, the Fellowship Hall, the kitchen and several classrooms.

 

 

 

 

 

The Cam Schall Education Building

 

On December 14, 1997, the Cam Schall Education Building was dedicated to the memory of Cam Schall, the 5 year old son of members, Cari and Greg, who passed away on May 19, 1997. This building houses the office staff, several Sunday School Classrooms, and the SUMC Preschool.

 

 

 

The Howard Family Life Center

 

This Howard Family Life Center had its grand opening on November 11, 2007. The building took 6 years of planning and was dedicated to Barbara and Henry Howard, beloved long-time members of Simpsonwood UMC. With over 20,000 square feet of usable space, the FLC is used to engage youth and adults in stage performances, gymnasium activities, classroom activites, and gatherings.The building offers expanded administrative office space, youth and adult Sunday School rooms, a large fellowship hall with kitchen facilities and much, much more.

Reverend George R. Freeman -- Founding Senior Pastor, lead our staff from 1982-1988.

Dr. Robert W. Brown -- Second Senior Pastor, lead our staff from 1988-1990.

Reverend Dr. Laurence McCullough -- Third Senior Pastor, lead our staff from 1990-May 2010.

Reverend Dr. Jim Ellison -- Fourth Senior Pastor, lead our staff from June 2010-March 2012.

Reverend Elaine Puckett- Interim Pastor, lead our staff from April 2012-June 2012.

Reverend Dr. Brian Clark- Fifth Senior Pastor, began leading our staff in June 2012.
