Music
Simpsonwood’s Music Ministry enhances worship as we experience God's presence through a variety of musical elements. Congregational singing, vocal groups, and instrumental solos and ensembles fill our sanctuary each Sunday. Musicians who participate in our choral, instrumental, praise bands, and hand bell ensembles find multiple blessings … service opportunities, spiritual growth, Christian fellowship, and the discovery and development of musical skills.
Our Music Ministry includes programs for children, students, and adults of all ages. Participation in any of our programs is open to all who are willing to invest their time and talents in this ministry. For more information, email Richard Hamrick, Director of Music and Worship Ministries, or call (770)441-2181, ext. 311.
Simpsonwood United Methodist is a “Safe Sanctuaries” church.

SIMPSONWOOD UMC and JOHNS CREEK UMC CO-HOSTING AZUSA PACIFIC UNIVERSITY CHOIR AND ORCHESTRA IN CONCERT
WEDNESDAY, MAY 22, 2013 at 7:00 PM
in the Sanctuary of Johns Creek UMC
Azusa Pacific University is the college our own Andie Tucker has attended these last four years and from where she will graduate in early May. This great group of committed Christian young people are on a rare tour of the southeast. Simpsonwood UMC would have loved to host the concert. However, there are 150 students in this choir and orchestra and we simply did not have room in our sanctuary for such a large crowd. Johns Creek UMC just moved into a brand new sanctuary which will seat 2000 people with enough room for this large group to perform. Our two churches are combining to host the concert. What that means for us, other than attending the concert is providing homes for the overnight stay of this choir and orchestra. If you would open your home to two or more of these students or would like more information, please contact Richard Hamrick at
The School of Music at Azusa Pacific University seeks to use God's gift of music to develop musicians of character and competence in an environment of excellence, balance, and integrity.
A nationally renowned, mixed-voice choral and orchestral ensemble under the direction of John Sutton, DMA, the University Choir and Orchestra (UCO) performs a wide variety of music with a concentration in contemporary Christian music at churches and schools throughout the United States, Mexico, Canada, as well as overseas. Comprising more than 120 vocalists and instrumentalists, UCO also performs throughout the year in the Los Angeles region.
UCO has a rich history of collaborative performances, including two NBC Christmas specials, three sold-out concerts at the Hollywood Bowl with the Los Angeles Philharmonic Symphonic Spectacular, concerts with the Long Beach Symphony POPS! Orchestra, and a performance as the featured musical ensemble for the sixth World Congress for Nurse Anesthetists. Accolades include: the Dove Award for the musical recording Exaltation, and a Grammy nomination for the Gospel recording Amen with the Cincinnati POPS! Orchestra in 1990.
In addition to bi-monthly concert appearances, UCO tours extensively each year, appearing in churches, schools, and civic organizations in the western United States, as well as internationally in countries like Mexico, Canada, and South Korea. Their 2012 May Tour will include performances in California, Oregon, Washington, and Canada.
