During the Lenten season, staff and church leaders will share a daily devotional. Please join us on the journey.
9 How can a young person stay on the path of purity?
By living according to your word.
10 I seek you with all my heart;
do not let me stray from your commands.
11 I have hidden your word in my heart
that I might not sin against you.
12 Praise be to you, Lord;
teach me your decrees.
13 With my lips I recount
all the laws that come from your mouth.
14 I rejoice in following your statutes
as one rejoices in great riches.
15 I meditate on your precepts
and consider your ways.
16 I delight in your decrees;
I will not neglect your word.
Getting Into God's Word
During this season of Lent, I have decided to focus on adding a habit to my daily life by spending more time in God’s Word. This will not just be a quick devotional here or there, but an intentional amount of time in His Word focused on listening to what He is trying to teach me. I love this passage because it quite elegantly states exactly what I fail to say sometimes. When I read these words by David, they seem so simple: “live according to [God’s] Word.” This seems so simple and yet so difficult to attain sometimes as my life becomes busy or I become worried or stressed and I forget to spend time in God’s Word. The habit that I plan to build during this season of Lent is to focus diligently, with no distractions, on scripture. Where will I start? I absolutely love the promises God has laid out in Romans. It is a constant reminder of God’s grace in my life.
Pray: Father, let me listen whole-heartedly as I read your Word. Please do not let my mind wander or get distracted as I pursue you through the Bible. Thank you for not giving up on me when I fail to spend time with you. We are blessed to be able to read, understand, and apply the teachings in the scriptures. Thank you for this intentional time to be reminded as we get closer to Easter of what you have done for us and how much you gave for me to be able to have a relationship with you. Amen
