During the Lenten season, staff and church leaders will share a daily devotional. Please join us on the journey.
And pray in the Spirit on all occasions with all kinds of prayers and requests. With this in mind, be alert and always keep on praying for all the Lord’s people.
Do not be anxious about anything, but in every situation, by prayer and petition, with thanksgiving, present your requests to God.
Sometimes praying can be very intimidating and mysterious. Is God listening? Can I pray for myself? Does He always answer prayers? Should I kneel…stand…? Do I have to close my eyes? Do I need a prayer closet? Is He really listening?
Actually, God wants our prayers to be as immediate as breathing. When someone asks you to pray for them, pray as soon as you walk away. You can be walking back to your office and just ask God to honor that request and for Him to help you to remember to pray for that person daily. When a person passes through your mind just throw up a quick prayer for them. Probably they need prayer for something…don’t we all? Just say, “Father, please bless ______ today. In the precious Name of your loving Son, Jesus. Amen.” That is it!! You just said a highly effective prayer for someone and it took about 3 seconds. A hundred 3 second prayers a day are every bit as effective as an hour in your prayer closet on your knees with your eyes closed. God is just on the other side of the curtain that is shielding your eyes from the spiritual world that surrounds us. He heard what you whispered and will immediately send the Holy Spirit to administer that blessing.
There are so many private places that you can pray: your car, the shower, the distance from your bosses office to yours. Don’t save it for later when you or someone else can enjoy God’s grace right now.
And He does answer each and every prayer that His children ask of Him. Don’t pray like you are His boss. “Father, make _____ well.” But rather pray “Father please bless ______ in a special way today. In Jesus’ Name. Amen.” God wants us all to be well. But well does not always mean healed. Trust Him.
Dearest Heavenly Father, please show me how to pray. Let me understand that reverence to You does not have to be kneeling with eyes closed. Help me to know that trusting that I can talk to You just on the other side of the curtain at any time is an act of glorious faith. In the precious Name of Jesus. Amen.
