SIMPSONWOOD UNITED METHODIST CHURCH PRIVACY POLICY

Revised August 2017

Simpsonwood United Methodist Church (SUMC) respects the privacy of its web site visitors.  We recognize that information provided by you belongs to you and must be treated in a confidential manner.  SUMC’s privacy policy is set forth below.  This policy applies to simpsonwoodumc.org and any other web sites owned and operated by SUMC.

Use of Personal and Non-Personal Information

SUMC collects two kinds of information about its online visitors:  personal and non-personal.  Visitors are not required to register to access the public pages of our sites.  Access to pages with content specific to a ministry area and/or its constituents is password protected and requires pre-registration.

Personal information that identifies a visitor, such as name, address, or contact information, is collected only when voluntarily offered and is used solely for purposes that are clearly identified on our sites.  Personal information is kept confidential and will not be disclosed to third parties except as may be required by law.

Non-personal information is collected to track statistical information regarding the number and type of guests visiting SUMC sites.  The non-personal information we collect includes the browser type and operating system used by our visitors, areas of the sites visited, date and time of access, host or service-provider information, and identification of the referring site.  This information is used exclusively for internal purposes as a guide for improving our sites and is not disclosed to any non-affiliated third parties.

Use of “Cookies”

SUMC may place an electronic “cookie” in the browser files of a guest’s computer.  Cookies are pieces of information transferred to an individual’s computer hard drive for record-keeping purposes.  Cookies themselves do not enable SUMC to access any personal information about its online visitors; however, they do allow us to analyze the use of our sites and to improve the user experience.  This analysis helps us better understand which areas of our sites are most useful and popular so we can plan improvements and updates accordingly.  SUMC does not use cookies to retrieve information from a visitor’s computer that was not originally sent in a cookie.

Protection of Credit Card Information

SUMC may collect credit card information on its sites.  We strive to protect the confidentiality and security of this information by (i) limiting access to card numbers, and (ii) maintaining reasonable safeguards to protect against the loss, misuse or unlawful disclosure of card numbers.  No credit card information is stored or logged on any system housed at SUMC; this information is passed straight through to our payment processor and is always communicated over encrypted communication channels.

Acknowledgement and Consent

By accessing or using this site, you acknowledge that the privacy of communication over the Internet cannot be guaranteed, and you consent to SUMC’s privacy policy as set forth herein.  SUMC does not assume any responsibility for any harm, loss, or damage you may experience or incur by the sending of personal or confidential information over the Internet by or to SUMC.  SUMC reserves the right, at its discretion, to update, modify, add, or remove portions of this policy from time to time.
