Simpsonwood United Methodist Men’s group is open to every man and male youth in our congregation and our community, the men who visit our Church, and any man who wants to grow in his relationship with God or to help in our mission outreach.
We have formal activities ranging from fellowship at a hockey game to construction of Walk Thru Bethlehem and from weekly Bible study to annual retreats away from the campus. Many of us have cultivated life-long friendships and will have impromptu gatherings to watch a ball game; enjoy a meal together; take a walk or play a round of golf.
We also partner with other groups in the Church for activities such as feeding the homeless at Safehouse once per month; serving a meal to men recovering from addiction at Victory Home, serving at RE-CHRIST MINISTRIES as mentors for at-risk elementary school children; and loading food for the Norcross Co-Operative Ministries. We combine fun, fellowship and faith to accomplish the Church’s mission of building a relationship with Jesus Christ and making Him known to others in our community, region and even in places like El Salvador and Honduras.
● Weekly Bible study on Tuesday mornings
The Bible study begins at 6:30 am with coffee, announcements, and a full breakfast; Bible study led by our pastor; and a closing prayer by 7:30 am. Our men contribute each week for breakfast and the collection is held until an appropriate need is found – needs range from buying washer-dryers for neighbors in need whose homes were destroyed by fire to financial assistance for folks traveling internationally to teach the gospel message.
● Annual Golf Tournament Fundraiser – Learn more about the 2020 Tournament here.
An annual golf tournament to raise money for missions. The event is a combination of golfing fun with a team scramble format; an auction for vacation packages, local restaurant gift cards, and rounds of golf at local clubs; and a fundraiser for the ministries and missions supported by SUMM.
● Sunday School Class
A small class of approximately a dozen men who study the Bible and offer both insight and support in our walk with Christ.
● Walk Through Bethlehem Construction
The construction of Bethlehem, the Church’s annual outreach and a celebration of Jesus’ birthday for our community in North Atlanta. Over a day and a half, we utilize carpentry, electrical, logistical, and organizational talent to build a replica of the village where Jesus was born.
● Breakfast with Santa
This annual event is held at the same time as the Bethlehem construction and is our Church’s outreach for the children in our community to come and tell Santa their Christmas wish list.
● Men’s Retreat
A men’s spiritual retreat generally held annually in the fall/winter led by a guest minister or author.
Several whole church outreach activities are currently led by one of our UMM members including: Safehouse Outreach; Victory Home; RE-CHRIST MINISTRIES; Bridge to El Salvador; Habitat for Humanity Build; Rainbow Village; and the United Methodist Committee on Relief to assist during times of disaster.
If you are looking for a bond with a bunch of Christian guys; if you are looking to grow in your faith; or if you just need a break from the rat race of the world; give Simpsonwood UMM a try. You may be surprised with the uplift in your Spirit.
