During the Lenten season, staff and church leaders will share a daily devotional. Please join us on the journey.
So all the Egyptians dug around the Nile for water to drink, for they could not drink of the water of the Nile. Exodus 7:24
Just Give Me a Cool Drink of Water ‘fore I Diiie – Maya Angelou
The poet and author, Maya Angelou inspired my first refrigerator prayer. Every morning, right about sunrise, I stand in front of the fridge and fill my glass. As I drink, I pray “Thank you God for cool, clean water and may the rest of the world drink from this cup today.”
The Bible speaks often of living water. Water as eternal life. They drink wine. They fill jugs of water. They anoint with water. Sprinkle. Baptize. He even leads us beside still waters. However, there just aren’t that many verses about the actual drinking of water.
So all the Egyptians dug around the Nile for water to drink, for they could not drink of the water of the Nile.
I’m reminded during Lent that many of us fast for spiritual cleansing, but we can never withhold water. I’m reminded that we work together to provide clean water through HOI by providing in-home filtration systems. I’m reminded of the symbolism of water through scripture. I’m reminded of the Chattahoochee that runs through our neighborhoods. Mostly I’m reminded of God’s straight-out goodness as we nourish ourselves daily at His well.
I hope you’ll pray with me. “Thank God for cool, clean water. And may the rest of the world drink from this cup today.”
